Speaking at A’23!

Did you know stories can make you smarter, more empathetic, and more creative?

I’m excited to share the value of storytelling for architecture in my “Empowered Storytelling” practicum at the AIA’s Conference on Architecture, A’23.

Spreading the word requires more engagement with social media than many of us—myself included—care to do. However, getting out of our little (insulated) spheres of comfort and influence can open up and, more importantly, clarify things.

Thanks to the process I’ve been through, I created a simple set of phrases to share what storytelling means to our profession:

Architecture has meaning.

Architecture has value.

Words have power.

Stories connect people through emotion.

Stories created with powerful words evoke human emotion.

Stories about the meaning and value of the work created by architects can have emotional resonance.

Emotional resonance means that those you share your story with carry the experience with them.

Whether you are an AIA Architect, an emerging professional, or a student in an architectural program, storytelling can advance and elevate (two of my most overused words!) your professional voice.
